Israel’s first solar power station is up and running in the south desert Negev, which is expected to provide 220,000 shekels (about 61,452 U.S. dollars) of electricity a year to the national power grid.
The plant is built by Moshe Tenne on his Negev farm for 1.3 million shekels, local daily Ha’aretz reported Thursday.

Iranian Vice President Hujatul Islam Moh Jawab Haji Ali Akbari met with the leaders of Indonesian second biggest Muslim organization of Muhammadiyah Din Syamsuddin on Thursday.
During the meeting, both leaders shared the idea of how to bring progress on Islam.

Islamic Hamas movement Thursday said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was ready for dialogue but ruled out his readiness for reconciliation.

A Lebanese army helicopter from the army air force was subjected to fire on Thursday over the hills of Sojod in south Lebanon, one officer was killed and four others wounded among the crew, local LBC TV channel reported.
The report said that the helicopter was hit by unidentified gunmen over Sojod hills in South Lebanon, then it was forced to land in Arab Salim.

Israeli army has arrested 17 Palestinians in the West Bank for the last two days, including a Fatah activist who was granted an amnesty, Palestinian sources said.
The arrest of Adham Labada, a fighter filleted with the armed wing of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement, took place on Wednesday’s noon when undercover forces infiltrated Nablus city, according to the sources.

Two “Free Gaza and Liberty” boats carrying International pro-Palestinian activists will leave Gaza for Cyprus on Thursday, together with several stranded students and patients aboard.

A Lebanese TV channel reported Thursday that gunfire attacked a Lebanese army helicopter while it flew over a village in south Lebanon.
The incident took place at a village in Telal Sejoud area in south Lebanon, which lies some 20 kilometers north of the Israeli border, LBC television reported.
There were casualties among the crew when the helicopter hit by the gunfire and made a forced landing, a Lebanese security source said.

A three-year-old child was announced dead of cholera in the Maysan province in southern Iraq, raising fears of spreading the disease throughout the country, a provincial medical source said on Thursday.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Wednesday that France would assume its responsibilities in Afghanistan.
“A military withdrawal would be followed by the return of Taliban and al Qaeda, and without doubt the destabilization of neighboring Pakistan. It is not conceivable,” said Sarkozy in a speech before the annual conference of ambassadors in Paris.
